WellPoint President and CEO Angela Braly Appears at the Norfolk Forum

WellPoint announced that Angela Braly, president and CEO, appeared at the Norfolk Forum at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, Va. this evening. Ms. Braly focused on how all aspects of the health care delivery system need to come together to improve both access to care and the quality of health care Americans receive.

Acknowledging the progress we have made in the past few years, Ms. Braly encouraged attendees to "fix what is broken, without breaking what works."

According to Ms. Braly, reform of the health delivery system must be built on three guiding principles:

-- Promoting health, prevention and wellness through a genuine focus on the needs of consumers

-- Empowering consumers and providers with meaningful information and realigning financial responsibility and incentives for quality care

-- Using comparative effectiveness research and other methods to promote treatment and care that we know works

"By following these principles we will be able to drive a sustainable expansion in health coverage while reducing the cost and improving the quality of care all Americans receive," Ms. Braly concluded.
